Equi-libre Horses

Positively coaching the art & science of horsemanship and equitation; enabling you to bring your equine dreams to life

Seasons Greetings

Christmas-Horse-Wallpapers

Another year is nearly over. Quite where it has gone, I honestly don’t know, but what an amazing year it has been.

Looking Back

Lessons, Clinics & Workshops

We have had such a great year here at Equi-libre Horses, very busy with a fully booked diary of teaching lessons, clinics and workshops as well as hosting clinics and workshops with other clinicians at our new base in Hertfordshire, where we moved to back in May.

Talks

The British Horse Society enjoyed a lecture about my work at the Shuttleworth College Equine Unit and I also presented at the first ever conference dedicated to clicker training horses. My presentation focused on “An alternative journey to classical lightness”. I wanted to inspire all horse owners to explore clicker training as a means of training them and their horses in classical riding & equitation. The lecture was incredibly well received and it was such an honour to be asked to be a part of the first UK Clicker Training Conference.

CPD

As always, I have been busy with CPD. My ongoing education with Equine Psychologist & Behaviourist Dr Helen Spence as one of her trainees has continued throughout this year. Not only am I thoroughly enjoying working with such talented trainers, but the growth, knowledge and practical experience I have gained is vast – spanning a multitude of areas, not just training with the clicker.

I also had the honour of undertaking advanced CPD with Shawna Karrasch from the USA in April. Shawna is a true pioneer amongst horse trainers. Formerly a Sea World trainer she took the behaviourist principles from the oceanarium to horse training, beginning at the Maddens’ show jumping yard. After honing her skills there Shawna gave presentations to the United States Equestrian Federation.

Being able to practice and discuss with Shawna and my colleagues from across the UK was such an honour. Despite a strong foundation in behavioural science, clicker training is not yet widely used by horse owners. Learning from a more experienced trainer and picking up new ideas has really added to the quality of my services.

Looking forward – 2013

We have some very exciting changes ahead in 2013. We will share more about these just as soon as we can, but in the meantime, we are busy putting together the 2013 calendar for lessons, workshops and clinics for ELH so keep an eye on our website, Facebook page, Twitter and LinkedIn profiles for more information about these and more…

I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this year, it’s been such a joy to meet so many wonderful people and horses; to have seen these partnerships grow so beautifully has been a real privilege and I continue to be blown away by the progress all of my clients have made.

I am so humbled by the incredible support that Equi-libre Horses has had thus far. As such, I want to take a moment to thank you all so very, very much!

Have a fabulous festive period. We are looking forward to seeing you all in 2013.

With very best Christmas wishes to you and your horses,

Jo Hughes
